| | Now that RIM has finally unveiled their iPad rival, the BlackBerry PlayBook, we thought some of you would appreciate a summary of how the PlayBook excels when directly compared to Apple’s iPad.
Let’s start with physical design, the PlayBook is just 10mm thick, whereas the iPad is 13.4mm thick, also the PlayBook weighs less at just 0.9lbs, whereas the lightest iPad weighs 1.5lbs. The clarity of the displays should be pretty similar, this is because the PlayBook’s 7 inch display supports a resolution of 1024 x 600, whilst the iPad’s 9.7 inch display outputs at 1024 x 768.
The PlayBook should offer a great web experience as it features full Adobe Flash 10.1 and HTML 5 support, at the moment a high percentage of websites use Flash, however in the future it is thought that HTML 5 will take over, therefore the PlayBook should be compatible with pretty much every website you tried to view.
One thing I dislike about the iPad is the need for accessories such as the iPad Camera Connection Kit and the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter, the PlayBook features a built-in microUSB connector and micro HDMI, these standardized connectors should allow you to easily connect your PlayBook to a wide-range of devices with a wide-range of cables.
The micro HDMI output allows your to connect your PlayBook to an external HD display, according to RIM’s website you will be able to stream video at 1080p, which is far superior to the iPad’s 576p output (via the Apple Component AV Cable).
When the iPad was revealed I was surprised that there was no built-in camera, the PlayBook features two camera, a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and a 3 megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing, these additions increase the PlayBook’s appeal, however no-doubt also increase its price.
Finally we will talk about performance, so far we haven’t seen a proper hands-on demo, however we do know that the PlayBook is capable of true multi-tasking, this is thanks to the combination of a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and BlackBerry Tablet OS, it will be interesting to see how this compares to the iPad’s 1GHz single core processor, 256MB of RAM and iOS.
The iPad’s build quality and software interactivity are in my opinion its best qualities, therefore I am sure RIM will do their utmost to match this, if the build quality of BlackBerry smartphones is anything to go by the PlayBook should be OK, however I do feel that RIM have a long way to come with touch screen intuitivity, what do you think?

Sprint customers disappointed by the lack of Wi-Fi on last summer's BlackBerry Tour 9650 will be pleased with the latest BlackBerry coming to the network. The BlackBerry Bold 9650 offers Wi-Fi and twice as much memory as the Tour. It also sports a superb keyboard and excellent messaging features and any sports and recreation apps which BlackBerry Company provides. Although badged as a Bold, the styling dimensions and feel of the device point more to a revamped BlackBerry Tour than a CDMA-based version of Bold 9700, which is offered by the GSM-based carriers AT&T and T-Mobile.

Design
The Bold 9650 measures 4.4 inches by 2.4 inches by 0.5 inch thick. At 4.8 ounces, however, it is slightly heavier than the 4.6-ounce Tour. The Bold 9650's body combines a muted chrome bezel with smooth black rubber and textured plastic. The texture contributes to the phone's comfortable in-hand feel. Like the Tour, the Bold 9650 has a 2.4-inch 480-by-360-pixel display.
App
Call Quality – it is spot-on with this version of the Bold. From low to high volume the speaker supports a range of sound from deep to high. The speakerphone is sufficiently loud as well.
Messaging – it is the strongest point of the BlackBerry. Connections to Gmail accounts sync messages and contacts seamlessly. A message sent from a computer will show up as a sent message on the device, which creates an incredibly useful completely current email record at all times.
Wireless – it boasts 802.11b/g, GPS, Bluetooth with profiles for streaming music, and support for UMTS/HSPA, CDMA/EV-DO and GSM based networks.
Operating system – it was announced alongside BlackBerry OS 6.0, it ships with OS 5.0, which we also saw on the BlackBerry Strom 2. BlackBerry OS 6.0 won't ship until Q3. BlackBerry OS 5.0 has sharper icons, brighter colors, and blacker blacks than BlackBerry OS 4.6 (which shipped on the original Bold). The interface is clean and simple to navigate, thanks to its easy-to-identify icons.
Multimedia
The 3.2 megapixel camera on the Bold 9650 features auto-focus, video recording and flash.
Using the camera has been made easier with this model. Previous auto-focus BlackBerrys required users to first focus and then completely presses the key to capture an image. With the Bold the process has been simplified to a simple point and click - the device will focus itself.
Like its siblings, the Bold's multimedia features are fairly middle-of-the-road. The vanilla music player lets you view your library by song, artist, or genre. During playback, a miniature album thumbnail appears. The app also has playlist and shuffle features, and a headphone equalizer. You can download music via Verizon's Rhapsody service.

It’s true that RIM hit the mark with the BlackBerry Bold 9650. And the Bold 9650 is the top. It's got a very good keyboard (though small, especially compared to the relative behemoth Bold 9000), good looks, good build quality and rock solid stability. We find the small, relatively high resolution display hard on the eyes, especially when web browsing and would put up with a larger phone to get a bigger screen. Apple CEO Steve Jobs opened the 2010 Worldwide Developers Conference on 8th, June by announcing the latest iPhone incarnation, the iPhone 4G. It will be available exclusively with AT&T starting June 24, with 5 countries at launch (US, France, Germany, UK, Japan), with 18 more following in July. The price with service is fair--US$199 for the 16GB phone or US$299 for the 32GB device--and both models come in white and black versions. Display
The iPhone 4G features a 940 * 640-pixel (or 326 pixels per square inch) Apple calls it a "Retina Display", which is four times the resolution of previous iPhone models. It's rated at 326ppi, which Apple claims is beyond the human eye's limit of distinction. Check out an example of the new screen up against the iPhone 3G after the break. Similar to the iPad, it's an IPS display, offering 800:1 contrast. The thickness of it is only 9.3 millimeters, 24% thinner than iPhone 3GS. New features of iPhone 4G
Firstly, iPhone 4G comes with iOS 4, the newest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. With over 100 new features, it includes Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple’s new iAd mobile advertising platform. With Multitasking, users can now instantly switch between any of their apps while preserving battery life. With Folders, users can easily organize their apps into collections by simply dragging one app on top of another. A folder is automatically created and named based on the category of apps selected. Users can change the name of any folder at any time. In addition, users can now customize their lock and home screens with an array of supplied wallpapers or with any of the photos on their phone.
Secondly, the iPhone 4G will feature the same A4 chip that’s found in the iPad. The result is a faster processor plus improved battery life (its supports seven hours of talk time on 3G networks, up to 10 hours of web browsing on Wi-Fi and up to six hours on 3G, and up to 10 hours of video playback and up to 40 hours of audio playback).
Thirdly, the iPhone 3GS gave us a compass, but the iPhone 4G raises the bar by offering a three-axis gyroscope. Like on an airplane, you'll get pitch, roll, and yaw, and it's tied with the accelerometer to provide six-axis motion sensing. Though by all means it will be useful to app developers, it also just looks like a lot of fun.
Moreover, the iPhone 4G’s front-facing camera is a 640-by-480-pixel camera (three-tenths of a megapixel, if you’re curious) designed to be used primarily with the new FaceTime video-chat system, though it will also work well as a way to take self-portraits. With the FaceTime, you can see your loved ones and friends anywhere there is Wi-Fi. Using FaceTime is as easy as making a regular voice call, with no set-up required, and you can instantly switch to the rear camera to show others what you are seeing with just a tap.
